POKOTABI / Houraku
宝楽
Houraku serves bite-sized kushikatsu in a light coating, with ingredients ranging from matsutake mushrooms and live kuruma prawns to white fish wrapped around muscat grapes. Here’s what visitors say about enjoying the skewers with a drink.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Visitors have described Houraku’s kushikatsu as lightly coated and generally small enough to eat in a single bite. The skewers are listed at 100 to 500 yen each. Alongside familiar choices such as sillago and mochi, the menu offers a range of ingredients, including matsutake mushrooms, live kuruma prawns, Wagyu tenderloin cutlet and fried squid topped with raw sea urchin. There are also more unexpected combinations, such as white fish wrapped around muscat grapes and fried salmon topped with salmon roe.
One visitor writes that they particularly enjoyed eating the skewers with the house salt. Others have enjoyed a course of around 20–30 skewers, which vary according to the day’s ingredients, or left the selection to the chef with an omakase order.
A visitor describes the restaurant as having only counter seating, with 8 seats. The setup suits an evening focused on skewers, food and drinks. The drinks list includes bottled beer, sake, shochu highballs and whisky, offering plenty of options to pair with your choice of skewers.
